beginnings I, My, Me, Mine.2010/08/24 21:31

I’m back from Korea. As I didn’t tell anything about these days, I need to explain what I’ve been doing. I’d got admission from Purdue and needed to visit to Korea to change my visa status. I really had a very nice time with my family as well as friends.

NOW I’m in Lafayette again. I’ve desired to advance my creative quality constantly and done well. Although I really enjoyed painting my own works, I’m always thirsty-maybe this could be forever!-for leaning other materials with a different perspective since I’ve been here. And I finally achieved one of my goals. The new semester started already from this week and I’m very excited about beginning my NEW work at Purdue.

When I got the ID card last week, I felt something emotionally came from deep inside my heart. The small card gives me lots of meaning for not only my aspiration of study but also my achievement of one and a half years preparation. And I’m ready to go for it despite the fact that I’m very conscious of tons of assignment during the semester. I sometimes could become crazy about the schoolwork things I have to do or pretend everything is fine, but I really know what makes me happy.

Go for it!

My New Place I, My, Me, Mine.2010/05/25 21:33

We moved to the new palce on may1. The biggest benefit of the apartment lacation is very closed to my husband's office. Besides, it was the best place for us we'd ever seen while we were searching apartments and houses. My ultimate dream of house(or apartment) is that the place would be the gallery with my paintings. I haven't hung my paintings yet because my show at K.Dees is still in progress. As soon as the show finish, I'll hang some paintings on my wall! Before hanging the paintings, I organized our pictures which are related to our wedding or family and friends from Korea.

- the image at night-time

My hunsband really loves classical music. He brought the CDs, he's collected for over five years since he was interested in classical music during his graduate years. when we organized our previous apartment, he bought the CD case at IKEA for them. Listening to music on the sofa has been one of the best time here for us!

The day-time of living room looks very comfortable with sunlight. It's so bright that I don't need to turn the lights on.

There is the kitchen, what I really like the best about its layout, and the wall shelf, we've had since we lived in previous apartment.

And finally!! here is the walls I'd like to hang my paintings like a gallery.

Stair - the stairs is connected to the entrance door. The entrance door and garage are on the first-floor and our living place is on the second-floor.

Kitchen - it already has the shelf with pictures, but I want to hang a small piece on the empty wall. The lest door is connected with the second bathroom.

Master bedroom - although I haven't installed curtains and organized stuff in the room yet, I decided to hang my piece on this wall with our pictures. The left door is the main entrance from the living room, and the right door is the master bathroom.

I'm sitting in the chair and blogging!

I'm very happy that I now have the better place to work. I haven't started working on my BRAND NEW PAINTINGS yet, but I'm planning an interesting project in a totally different way compared to the previous work. As soon as I finish my draft, I'll begin the new work! I truly look forward to meeting my new paintings!

what a wonderful day I, My, Me, Mine.2010/04/27 00:01

It'd been great days in Lafayette last week and I went to K.Dees coffee.
Since my show opened, I visited K.Dees coffee several times with my friends.
I sometimes went to the place alone to read books or feel the atmosphere.
It's really enjoyable to meet people who I've never met at K.Dees.

Sitting by the window, I can feel warm because sunlight comes in through the window.

It's very tough to bear the cold in Indiana during winter, but all of the weakness here can be forgiven when it comes to spring. I believe that K.Dees coffee is the best place ever I've been here!

ART
I've tried to read this book for many times.
However, I always put reading it off because of my lack of motivation.
Anyway, I've decided to read it again during summer.

Although I already learn about the contents including art history
from P
re-and Early History to Modern Art,
I need to read again because there're a lot of unfamiliar words in English
and I want to review them for my new school life.

Studying art history could be a very pleasant definitely, but studying for a profession?
Oh- I think it's very hard work.
I truly hope that I can finish it before the new semester starts.

Portfolio work I, My, Me, Mine.2010/03/09 21:53

"portfolio workers" or "protfolio careers"
- Individuals will maintain portfolios of people's skills, abilities, and achievements with which they obtain temporary assignments in a variety of organizations ( by Charles Handy )

I have worked as a portfolio worker since I began my career and I have thought how I could survive in real life with a lot of competitors. Besides, I have always compared the job-for-life with the life-for-job because if I worked for money, I sometimes could not do the work which I really enjoy although I could earn a lot of money. I completely know that living as a portfolio worker is such a tough job because I do not have permanent income every month like full-time employees and I sometimes suffer from not having work or enough money. Fortunately, I have been able to get some work continuously but some of my friends working by themselves could not find an appropriate job or meet a good client. In my case, portfolio working makes me satisfied while I am working because I can prepare my own work and select my work by myself. If I worked for a company, I could not be happy because I might have to do work for only the company. The biggest advantage for portfolio workers is that they can work for their own satisfaction. I think this is very important element when I am working.

-about myART, Jong-un Choi
I received both B.F.A. and M.F.A. degrees in Korean Painting, from the College of Arts at Ewha Womans University in Seoul, Korea, in 2004 and 2007, respectively. Since 2006, I have held four invited solo exhibitions in Seoul, three art fairs, and several group exhibitions.

I specialize in Korean painting and I have been able to learn traditional Korean methods and experience a variety of traditional materials. Although I specialized in Korean Painting, I'd like to learn diverse experience in the United States. I think I'm taking my first step as an international here and I hope that there are a lot of chances in store for me.
